Reading tips:

• Read as many books on the ACL syllabus for Première as you can over the Summer and at least Interpreter of Maladies and Intimate Apparel.
• Buy the books on the ACL syllabus instead of borrowing them and don't hesitate to write in them. For example, you could circle words you don't know, underline quotations that you like, identify important passages, and put question marks next to those you don't fully understand.
• Read each chapter without stopping to check the meaning of the words you don’t know. You should read for overall understanding first. Try and guess what those words mean from the context and the way they are built (remember transparent words, derived words, and compound words). Circle them, then, at the end of the chapter or your reading session, go back to look some of them up in a dictionary (5 to 10 words per chapter maximum).
• Remember that watching a movie adaptation of the book cannot replace reading the actual text.
