The students of the BFI American Section chose Marilyn Monroe as their promotion name because she embodies both strength and vulnerability. Behind her glamorous image, Marilyn was an independent woman determined to make her voice heard in a male-dominated world. She challenged the stereotypes imposed on women and claimed the right to be recognized for her talent as much as for her beauty — a truly feminist stance for her time.

But Marilyn also represents the fragility that comes with fame and social pressure. Her struggles with depression, anxiety, and addiction remind us how essential mental-health awareness is for our generation. By choosing her, we wish to honor a woman who was complex, brave, and deeply human — an enduring icon who inspires us to be both ambitious and kind to ourselves.

Les élèves de la section américaine BFI ont choisi Marilyn Monroe comme non de promotion parce qu’elle incarne à la fois la force et la fragilité. Derrière son image de star glamour, Marilyn fut une femme libre, déterminée à s’affirmer dans un monde dominé par les hommes. Elle a osé dénoncer les stéréotypes imposés aux femmes et revendiqué le droit d’être reconnue pour son talent autant que pour sa beauté : un geste profondément féministe pour son époque.

Mais Marilyn symbolise aussi la vulnérabilité face aux pressions de la célébrité et de la société. Ses luttes contre la dépression, l’anxiété et l’addiction rappellent l’importance de la santé mentale, un sujet majeur pour notre génération.
